How to Spot a Genuine Profile vs a Fake One
"Trust your gut" is true but not very actionable. Here are more concrete things to actually look for when you're deciding whether a profile is genuine.
Multiple photos that clearly show the same person
A single photo, or several photos where the person is hard to identify consistently across all of them, is worth noticing. Real profiles usually have a handful of photos that are obviously the same person in different settings — that consistency is hard to fake convincingly.
Profile details that add up
Occupation, age, neighbourhood, and bio should feel like they belong to one coherent person. It's not about interrogating every detail — it's about noticing if something feels randomly assembled rather than lived-in.
Conversation that responds to what you actually said
A profile that's a front for a scam often produces messages that feel slightly off-topic — generic compliments, questions that don't build on anything you've said, a script-like quality to the pacing. A real person's replies engage with the specific thing you just wrote.
